DESCRIPTION:Problem-solving courts have become a central feature of many state justice systems\, as they offer an effective\, evidence-based approach for addressing the underlying challenges—like substance use disorders and mental health issues—that often drive people into the justice system. Decades of research shows that these courts save lives\, reduce reoffending\, strengthen families\, and improve public trust in justice. One of the major critiques of problem-solving courts\, however\, is that they raise constitutional and legal concerns related to due process\, right to counsel\, access to appropriate treatment\, confidentiality of information\, and other issues. It is critically important that problem-solving court judges and teams understand these constitutional and legal issues and ensure that their courts are conforming to the law and protecting the rights of participants. In this session\, a legal expert from the Center for Court Innovation will provide a comprehensive review of the major constitutional and legal issues in problem-solving courts and facilitate a discussion around specific issues of concern to session attendees. SUMMARY:Free Wisconsin Treatment Court Standards Training
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for each of three Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) sponsored training sessions. The FREE Treatment Court Standards Trainings are intended only for new team members who have joined an established Wisconsin treatment court and who need standards training. \nThe one-day training is open to all of Wisconsin’s treatment courts\, regardless of funding\, and made possible FREE of charge by the WI Department of Justice (DOJ) through a Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) grant. \nThe training will highlight the major points of all 17 WI Treatment Court Standards and will have discipline-specific breakouts for new team members to discuss their specific roles on the team. \nThe trainings will be held in September in three locations around the state. To register\, please click on one of the following location-specific links below: \n\nJanesville – Sept. 10th\nAppleton – Sept. 18th\nRice Lake – Sept. 25th\n\nLodging is fully covered and available the night before the training for individuals who need it and who live or work (whichever is closer) more than 50 miles from the training location. Please be sure to read the lodging information carefully on the Cvent registration and let us know if you have any questions. You must secure your own lodging and provide a credit card for authorization\, but the rooms will be fully covered by DOJ. Meals will be reimbursed at the state rate through a DOJ reimbursement form. \nSpace is limited\, so please register as soon as possible if you know you will be attending this training. DESCRIPTION:WATCP celebrates 15 years during this year’s State conference\, to be held at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells\, May 8-10\, 2019. \n\nRegistration fee is $300/ per person for the full 2 1/2 day conference. Fee includes breakfast\, lunch and snack on Days 1 and 2\, meet and greet reception on Day 2 and breakfast on day 3. \nLodging is the current state rate per night $82 single room and  $109 for a double. Registration deadline April 26th. \nVeteran Mentor Boot Camp is open to veteran mentors and will take place Thursday\, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.\, and Friday\, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. with graduation ceremony to follow.
